“Applications of Spectroscopic Techniques”

Date of Event: 24th August 2026

Organised by: Maharishi School of Sciences in association with IQAC

Objective: The Maharishi School of Sciences (MSOS), Maharishi University of information Technology, Lucknow Campus, in association with IQAC, organized a Guest Lecture on “Applications of Spectroscopic Techniques” on 24th August 2026. The primary objective of organizing the lecture was to strengthen students’ fundamental understanding of spectroscopy and familiarize them with different spectroscopic techniques and their interdisciplinary applications.

Participating Students: Students from B. Sc. and M. Sc. programs.

Event Details: The event commenced with the traditional lamp lighting, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the beginning of the academic programme. The distinguished speaker, Dr. R. K. Shukla, Senior Professor, Department of Physics, University of Lucknow, Lucknow, was formally introduced by Dr. Nishant Kumar, Dean, MSOS, with a brief overview of his academic expertise and significant contributions to the field of spectroscopy and scientific research. Dr. Shukla was welcomed and felicitated as a token of respect and appreciation for his valuable contribution to the academic community.

During his lecture, Dr. Shukla explained the fundamental principles of spectroscopy, different types of spectroscopic techniques, including UV–Visible, FTIR, Raman, fluorescence, NMR, and mass spectrometry, along with their respective spectral ranges and interdisciplinary applications in modern scientific research. Special emphasis was given to UV–Visible spectroscopy, including its principles, spectral interpretation, and applications. The lecture also covered important spectroscopic parameters, including the calculation and significance of photon energy, band-gap energy, absorption coefficient, refractive index, and extinction coefficient. The session helped students develop a stronger understanding of spectroscopy and its application in studying the physical, chemical, and optical properties of materials.

The lecture was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students actively interacted with the speaker and sought clarification regarding fundamental concepts, applications, and research possibilities in spectroscopy. The interaction made the session highly informative, engaging, and beneficial for both students and faculty members.

Students’ Feedback: Students found the lecture highly beneficial in strengthening their understanding of spectroscopy, its different techniques, spectral ranges, and interdisciplinary applications. They found the session informative and interactive, particularly the discussion on important spectroscopic parameters and their relevance to research.
