Objective: Maharishi University of Information Technology in coordination with NSS Units and IQAC, organised Plantation Drive on World Environment Day 2026 under Mission Life & "एक पेड़ माँ के नाम", as per the directive of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, and the University Grants Commission (UGC), on 5th June 2026.
The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students, faculty, and staff in accordance with the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Climate Action – Now for Climate” and reinforce the message “Plant Today, Breathe Tomorrow.”
Participating Students: Students and faculty from various schools of Lucknow Campus.
Event Details: The programme commenced with the plantation of saplings by Dr. Girish Chhimwal (Registrar), Dr. K. K. Shukla (Controller of Examinations), Dr. Rajesh Singh (Deputy Registrar), Dr. Neeraj Jain (Dean Academics), Dr. Rupam Singh (MSOH), and Dr. Sapan Asthana (NSS Program Officer Unit 1). Their participation reflected the university’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The plantation drive was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Mukesh Kumar Pandey, Assistant Professor (MSOH) and Nodal Officer, Mission LiFE Campaign who highlighted the importance of tree plantation in combating climate change, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring a sustainable future. Along with this, another programme, ‘Ek Ped Maa ke naam,’ was convened by Dr. Sapan Asthana, who played a pivotal role in planning, coordinating, and ensuring the smooth execution of the plantation drive. Under his guidance, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, reflecting the University's collective commitment to environmental conservation. He encouraged participants to adopt sustainable practices and emphasized that tree planting is a meaningful step towards creating a greener and healthier future.
During the drive, participants planted environmentally significant tree species such as Mango (Aam), Jamun, and Neem at various locations across the university campus. These species were selected for their ecological, medicinal, and environmental importance and are expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the campus green cover.
The event was attended by Dr. R. P. Dixit (Deputy Dean, MSOH), Dr. Nishant Pandey (Dean, MSOS), Dr. Dheeraj Yadav (Dean, MSOA), Dr. Pawan Kumar (Dean, MSOPS), Dr. Kuldeep Kumar (Asst Prof, MSOH), Dr. Kanchan Awasthi (Dy Dean, MSOS), along with other distinguished members of the university.
Students’ feedback: Participants appreciated the initiative and expressed their commitment towards environmental protection and sustainability. The activity helped create awareness regarding climate action and the importance of preserving natural resources.
