Educational Visit to ICAR-Central Institute for Sub-tropical

Horticulture, Lucknow

Objective: An educational visit to ICAR-CISH (ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture) was organized by Maharishi School of Agriculture (MUIT Lucknow campus) in association with IQAC on 18th May 2026 with the aim of providing practical exposure to students on horticultural crops, including production practices, research activities, and post-harvest technologies, the visit effectively helped in connecting their academic learning with real field experiences.

Participating Students: Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture IV Sem, M.Sc. Agronomy II Semester & B.Sc. (Botany) II & IV Semester.

Visit Details: The educational visit began with an interactive introductory session on the identification of horticultural crops and the different varieties developed through various breeding techniques. Students then explored the CISH museum, where they gained knowledge about different training systems of mango, guava, grapes, and other fruit crops. After the museum visit, the students toured the experimental fields of CISH and observed crop training systems along with various experimental designs used for conducting field trials.

During the visit, Dr. Muthu Kumar, Senior Scientist (Biotechnology & Plant Science), and Dr. Maneesh Mishra, Principal Scientist (Horticulture), actively interacted with the students and explained the characteristics of fruit crops as well as innovative technologies such as organic fruit production, intercropping, and smart fruit production technologies.

The visit was successfully coordinated by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar Mishra (Assistant Professor, MSOA).

Students’ Feedback:  The educational tour served as an excellent platform for bridging theoretical knowledge with practical learning, enabling students to gain first-hand experience of advanced horticultural techniques and ongoing research activities in the field of subtropical horticulture.
