 One-day Seminar on Multidisciplinary Perspective in Social Sciences

Objective: Maharishi School of Humanities (MUIT Lucknow Campus), in association with IQAC, successfully organized a one-day seminar on Multidisciplinary Perspective in Social Sciences on Saturday, 25th April 2026. The seminar was organized to foster an interdisciplinary understanding of social sciences and to sensitize students and scholars to the significance of multidisciplinary approaches in contemporary academic research and pedagogy. It aimed to highlight the interrelationship between social sciences and humanities while promoting holistic and integrated education envisioned under NEP 2020.

Participating Students: BA, MA, BSW and MSW students.

Event Details: The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Rupam Singh (Dean MSOH), who greeted the distinguished guests and participants and highlighted the academic relevance of the seminar theme. Dr. Neeraj Jain (Dean Academics) addressed the gathering and emphasized the growing importance of multidisciplinary learning in higher education.

The first technical session was delivered by Prof. Siddhartha Singh, Department of English, Sri JNMPG College, Lucknow, who discussed how multidisciplinary research can provide comprehensive solutions to complex societal issues. He stressed that knowledge should not remain confined to disciplinary boundaries and encouraged students to adopt broader analytical frameworks in academic inquiry. Contemporary Indian issues require multidisciplinary approaches, and India’s NEP 2020 supports this through holistic, integrated, and inclusive education.

The second technical session was conducted by Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Head, Department of Political Science, University of Lucknow, who discussed the practical relevance of multidisciplinary perspectives in understanding socio-political realities. He highlighted the significance of integrating insights from diverse disciplines to formulate informed and effective responses to social challenges and emphasized the alignment of such approaches with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.

A major highlight of the seminar was the active participation of students from multiple disciplines who presented research papers reflecting interdisciplinary engagement and critical thinking. Their presentations demonstrated the practical application of multidisciplinary perspectives across diverse themes within social sciences and humanities. A total of 57 papers were presented by the students.

The Best Paper Presenter Awards were conferred upon Sakshi Mishra (BA VI Semester, Psychology) for her research on Separation Anxiety in Adults, Manya Singh (M.A. Psychology) for her study on Psychological Profiles of Defense Aspirants: A Comparative Study of SSB Selected and Non-Selected Candidates, and Shaista Parveen (MSW IV Semester) for her paper titled ग्रामीण समुदाय में मुस्लिम किशोरियों की शिक्षा से दूरी के कारण का अध्ययन.

During the programme, the compilation of accepted papers and the book cover of Use and Possibilities of Regional Languages in Higher Education,” edited by Dr. Ram Prakash Dixit, was formally released.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. R. P. Dixit, followed by the National Anthem and a group photograph. The seminar was convened by Mr. Mukesh Kumar Pandey, coordinated by Dr. Vijay Srivastava, and anchored by Shreya Gupta (B A Sem IV) and Sanskriti Mishra (B A Sem. II).

Students’ feedback: Students appreciated the seminar for providing valuable academic exposure and deeper insight into the interdisciplinary nature of social sciences. They found the sessions intellectually enriching and helpful in broadening their understanding of research methodologies and contemporary educational approaches.
